HI-

When did people start feeding their baby? My doctor said it is okay for oatmeal. My baby only likes in formula but hates by itself. I even put some applesauce in there and still hates it.

Do I call the doctor and ask if he can start the other stuff or just go for it. Ian is 18 pounds and only 5 months and getting up all hours of the late.

Older relatives are telling me to feed him. They haven't had a kid in like 40 years!

HELP!

I know how hard it can be to get your family to eat right and together, especially when we are all on such hectic schedules. I am the owner and head chef of Hungry for Time, a personal chef service. What I do is make customized meals for you and your family in your home. To get to know what kind of food your family enjoys, we will have a free assessment where you can tell me specifics to your dietary wants and needs. From there I will create a menu and we will set up a cook date that will be convenient for you.

My services are very affordable and will probably even save you a little money. When you think about all the food you buy that gets thrown out because you didn't have time to cook it, thats a lot of money to throw down the drain! Also, with me as your personal chef you won't have to waste time planning meals, shopping, cooking or cleaning. With me as your personal chef you will have more time to spend with the people and things you love.

Please check out my website and feel free to call or email me with any questions. www.hungryfortime.com

Has your young child been diagnosed with a food sensitivity or allergy? I have been dealing with peanut, wheat(gluten) and chocolate allergies for years. These cute t-shirts and totes are very helpful when taking kids with food sensitivites to daycare, new babysitters, etc. A note with the child just might not be enough to remind caregivers to pay special attention to your baby's allergies. Check this website to purchase helpful items. They are cute too!

Shanna- I have told the pediatrician what I give them and she said that was fine as long as the other supplements didn't have as much of a dose as the multi vitamin. I take a multi vitamin a B complex and juice plus and I used to take a calcium one too. If they are different supplements then why is it too much? I try to give my kids healthy food but they refuse to eat any vegetables except my daughter will eat sweet potatoes when I give her a hard time and they hardly eat fruit pretty much apples and mandarin oranges is the only thing I can get them to eat so I feel like if I can get those supplements into them then they are getting what they don't get from food. I have even tried sneaking pureed veggies in food and they call me out on it every time. My 18 month old is wonderful she eats everything, the 4 and 6 year old used to be the same way then at around 2 they stopped and it has been a battle ever since. I have tried everything to get them to eat more fruits and veggies and they will not, I am hoping when they get a little older they will be more open to trying different things not just taking a bite holding their mouth open then spitting it out saying eewww gross. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them.

I do admit that I am not consistent because we are very rushed in the morning and I forget alot of the times to give it to them as well as taking my own vitamins. I have not noticed anything different but I have heard that the Omega 3 is supposed to be good for the brain function so that is why when I do give it I try to give it to them in the morning before school.

I have a few really great restaurants to recommend:
1) Stonewood Grill in Wellington (out of the way but worth it- they only do call ahead(no resevations) and they open at 4. We went at 6:30 last year and got in within a half hour. Awesome steaks!
2) Prime Catch in Boynton Beach. Great fish- really fresh. The place is always packed. I called to get reservations earlier today and they only had them for 9:30 or 9:45 (not gonna work for us.)
3. GOL! Delray Beach. This is a Brazilian Steakhouse where they slice the meat at your table from skewers. INCREDIBLE! Very upbeat atmosphere. They will suggest (if you drink) a Caipirinha- it is very very strong so you are forewarned on that...lol.

I hope you have a great dinner whereever you decide! We will be going to The Melting Pot (I have never been- believe it or not.)

Well I know when we went for the holiday party we started at the Crabhouse for drinks at around 4:30 stayed for about an hour then went next door after drinks it doesn't open until 5 anyways. My husband and I never go out and we are so used to eating around 5:30-6 because of the kids and I pathetically can't make it much past 9:30 or ten without wanting to pass out from exhaustion from trying to keep up with the 3 of my mine so we tend to eat earlier than later. Maybe any of those places that has a 4 reservation maybe you can go drag it out order a couple drinks appetizer then dinner? Well whatever you wind up doing I hope you enjoy it!

It is called Jetty's or right next door is the Crabhouse. I know they are a little pricier than the restaurants I mentioned above so maybe you can check those out. We went to Jettys for my husbands company holiday party and the food is really good. Maybe you can just try showing up at one of the places you called that are booked maybe if you go a little earlier they can squeeze you in. They can't turn away people who just walk in without a reservation can they?

There always has to be a smart alec right? I know my mother taught me that if I didn't have anything nice to say then to not say it at all. Anyway I know they do not take reservations but if you get there early enough you may not have to wait to long and it happens to be my absolute favorite resteraunt Houstons. You can also try Cheesecake Factory, again if you get there a little earlier you might not have that much of a wait. I'm bummed because I moved to Martin county and don't have Houstons close anymore. City Place has an Italian resteraunt I don't know the name of it but it has alot of outdoor seating and it is right next to the water where they set up when they do live music. Was there anything in particular you were craving? I know there is also lots of places downtown Delray, the upperdeck which is upstairs at Bostons is more upscale and that is right across from the ocean and it is such a pretty view and a great ocean breeze. I have to admit I haven't been to downtown Delray in a few years so I don't know what has come and gone but I knwo I used to like to eat and then just walk around afterwards. Hope my suggestions help and hope you find something you enjoy!

I added a category for After-school snacks to the Recipe Club.

When you get a chance, please help us out and send in a recipe or two for that category. Here's the link to the Recipe Club page: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/food_dining/databases/recipes.html

Hi, Steph,

My name is Jane Smith, online database editor for the Palm Beach Post. I created our Recipe Club database.

I'm interested in finding out more about your desire to get recipes for kids with food allergies. What categories would work best for you -- Gluten-free, Egg-free, Dairy-free? Or some others that you've found?

Let me know, and I'll add them in our Recipe Club database. Here's a link to that page: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/food_dining/databases/recipes.html

You can submit a recipe, or search for one from that page.

Let me know what would work best for you.

Thanks!

Try Healthy Habits Co-op. They offer produce every two weeks, but you can also order dry goods (grains, nuts, dry fruits, etc. – some advance planning required bc. orders only go in every two months) and there is a group that orders dairy products and meats from a local farm as well (you have to get on an email list for this). Pretty much you can pick and choose what you want from the dry goods, dairy and meats, but produce is selected for you. With that said, members can influence the selection and even have some flexibility, i.e. If you got mushrooms and don’t want them, you switch it for something else, like extra broccoli. I have personally loved the selection: good variety of greens, veggies and fruits without getting too exotic. It’s what we’ve been feeding our family for a couple of years now and I can happily say, there is little else I need to buy from the grocery store. Members need to contribute in some way, but there are so many ways to get involved, that no one is excluded. Pick up times and locations may be the only difficulty for some, but if you want to start a group for your neighborhood, community or organization, our hosts receive their produce for free and their helpers get a good discount. That is how I got involved. . . money is tight for our family, but there’s no excuse for healthy living and I feel I get the absolute best in quantity and quality! For more details and sample orders go to www.healthyhabitsproduce.blogspot.com. Get a group started in your area and feed your family well for LESS!
